Lazy Log Cabin Days
Posted on September 1, 2010 · Leave a CommentWhile Alpharetta quite an industrialized city these days, it was long ago when people lived a pioneering lifestyle and housed their families in log cabins. They were the preferred housing of the day. Could you imagine going back to the 1700 and1800s and telling someone about an apartment?
You: “I live in a 1000 square foot dwelling with other families living below and above me?”
1804 Milton County resident: “Wait, you live in a building with other families that you DON’T know?”
You: “Yep!”
1804 Milton County resident: “You’re crazy!”
That’s how I figure a conversation would go, but maybe they would have more of an understanding depending on the person. Though the early settlers of Milton County may never know what an apartment is, you’ll have the chance to see exactly what a log cabin looks like inside and out at Lazy Log Cabin Days. Taking place Sunday, September 12th at Noon you’ll be able to tour Alpharetta’s historic Future Farmers of America Log Cabin built in 1934 by some of the local high school students. You’ll get to see historical demonstrations, play old time games, listen to blue grass music & story telling And there’ll be children’s crafts for those restless youngins. And get this, it’s all FREE!
I can’t wait to go! What about you residents of Cypress Point? It’ll be a fun Sunday afternoon.

Love-15
Posted on August 26, 2010 · Leave a CommentWith the U. S. Open scheduled to start next Monday, August 30th and run through September 12th, what better time to mention the Adult Tennis Tournament than now? The City of Alpharetta Recreation and Parks Department is hosting the tourney this weekend, August 27th-29th at North, Wills and Webb Bridge Parks. There will be divisions for men and women and levels AA, A, B and C for different experienced players. The team entry fee is only $50 and all teams are guaranteed at least 2 matches. Sounds like a fun time!
Now that we’ve got that out of the way, who do you think will the U. S. Open this year? Juan Martín del Potro came out of nowhere to beat Roger Federer for the title and unranked Kim Clijsters did the same beating Caroline Wozniacki. But, this is a different year with different outcomes (maybe)! With Serena Williams sitting the Open out with a foot injury, Wozniacki is the top seeded woman this year. Will that make a difference for the Dane?
World number one Rafael Nadal has yet to win the American title and this year might just be his. He’s having a great season thus far winning his fifth Roland Garros title and second Wimbledon, so things could be looking up for Rafa. Do your best Nadal or Wozniacki impression this weekend at the Adult Tennis Tournament then be sure to watch the U. S. Open.
For more information regarding the tourney, call 678-297-6140 or email nptennis@alpharetta.ga.us. Show off your tennis skill Cypress Point!

I Need A Massage
Posted on August 16, 2010 · Leave a CommentYou won’t usually find me treating myself to anything spa, but occasionally I will! And I’ll go all out spending a couple hundred dollars in the process of making myself feel better inside and out. And do I feel better after it all! I see no problem with spoiling yourself every once in a while; in fact, I think it does a body good (like milk!).
So, why not make yourself feel good? The Deal Dealer, Groupon, has found the ultimate deal for massage enthusiasts and those that just need a good massage. You have 8 more hours to get a 55 minute massage at Elements Therapeutic Massage for just $40! That’s a savings of $39. It’s probably the best deal I’ve heard for an hour massage, unless you can somehow find one for free.
And Elements is definitely worth it! Their massage therapists are able to help relieve back and neck pain, reduced stress, increased circulation and improved range of motion. If you need any of those, you need Elements! So, check out the Groupon and “cash it in.” Elements is only 14 minutes away from Cypress Point!

29EBR
Posted on August 13, 2010 · Leave a CommentRemember that scene in The Cable Guy when Jim Carrey’s character battles Matthew Broderick’s character in the medieval pit “to the death?” Wouldn’t you love to be able to do just that? Well now you still can’t, but you can go to Medieval Times in Lawrenceville and watch “Knights of the Realm” do battle as you cheer them on.
You get to feast like a king (meaning with your hands) on a four course meal–chicken leg, tomato soup, spare rib and pastry of the night. And there is a vegetarian “bill of fare” for all the vegetarians out there!. So “step back in time with epic battles, jousting tournaments, royal feasts, knights and romance” at Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament.
Oh, I almost forgot! You’re probably wondering what the title “29EBR” has to do with Medieval Times. Through September 7th, you can use that as a promo code for $29.95 when buying tickets online for Medieval Times! And Cypress Point isn’t far from “the castle.” It’s just a 30 minute drive! I’d say it’s worth it.

Family Day in Atlanta
Posted on August 9, 2010 · Leave a CommentThe Fabulous Fox Theatre is holding its annual Coca Cola Summer Film Fest and it’s coming to an end pretty soon. In fact, the last showing will be this Sunday, August 15th and it’s a Double Feature that is perfect for the family! The first movie showing is Toy Story 3 at 1:00 p.m. and following that at 6:30 p.m. is The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. If you have kids that fit the age range of the films, it would be a perfect ending to the weekend! Actually, if you like either of the films drag the kids along; I’m sure they’ll like it too!
If you decide to stay in Atlanta and watch both films, you’re going to have to eat eventually, right? So, after Toy Story 3 ends I suggest heading out to pick up a bite. I’ll even share a few of my favorite spots Downtown:
- The Varsity, 61 North Ave. – I know you don’t get this greasiness in Alpharetta!
- Le Petit Bistro, 512 Peachtree St. – Awesome place for simple cafe foods.
- Rare, 554 Piedmont Ave. – Great tapas!
- Marble Slab Creamery; 85 5th St. – For dessert!
After you’ve finished your early dinner head back to the Fox for Eclipse and some good ol’ vampire and werewolf fun! Tickets are just $8, which is a lot less than going to Regal at Medlock and the Fox is a historic site in the city. It’s only a 30 minute drive from Cypress Point.

Touch A Truck
Posted on August 6, 2010 · Leave a CommentNext weekend marks the 12th year that the City of Alpharetta will hold the Touch A Truck event! What exactly is Touch A Truck? It’s an afternoon full of all sorts of automobiles. You’ll get the chance to see and touch fire engines, police cars, trucks, heavy-duty construction equipment, military vehicles, motorcycles, emergency vehicles, school buses, and many more!
This is an awesome opportunity to bring the entire family out to the North Park Football Fields and enjoy a lovely day with loved ones. This is perfect for car enthusiasts as well the little ones (you know how they love Hot Wheels)! There will also be other family activities and entertainment like moonwalks, balloon artists, facepainting and plenty of food for when that stomach gets to grumbling!
This event is free and will be held next Saturday, August 14th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. I’ll see you there!
Cats, Sugarland or Cyndi Lauper?
Posted on August 4, 2010 · Leave a CommentWouldn’t you say that’s a rather random line-up? I’d say so. I don’t think I could watch Cats, but Sugarland (love Jennifer Nettles) and Cyndi Lauper would be very entertaining. But, I actually wouldn’t mind seeing all three in a show together; that would be crazy! Cyndi and Jennifer in cat costumes and singing songs like “All I Want To Do” and “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” That’ll never happen, but you can definitely see them separately this week in the Atlanta/Alpharetta area.
The long running musical Cats is at the Fabulous Fox Theatre tonight (August 4th) and it starts promptly at 8:00 p.m. It’s the second longest-running show on Broadway and fourth longest-running in musical theatre history, so you know it’s good! Check it out if musicals are your thing!
Sugarland has had undeniable success in the country music world and will continue to do so as long as Jennifer Nettles is lead singer. She has some pipes on her! And Mr. Bush can definitely play the guitar as well as the hamonica ( not too many people play it anymore). They play tomorrow at Verizon Wireless at 7:30 p.m. if you want to experience the Incredible Machine!
The lively and rambunctious Cynda Lauper will be at Chastain Park Amphitheater on Friday at 8:00 p.m. (well, I’m sure she’ll be there earlier than that, but the concert starts then). Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings will be with her, so you’re in for a treat! Get your tickets now.
Which one will you pick? Verizon Wireless Amphitheater is only down the street from Cypress Point!
